Health and Fitness Post

Friday 7 February 2014

So i've had so many requests to update on my health and fitness and share what i eat and how often i exercise etc?
I was obviously a lot more serious about it around april-october last year, was able to lose over a stone and had the body I actually liked. (i'm not sure if anyone noticed but I was a double D now i fail to fit into a small triangle bra)
But I was obsessed with the amount of calories i consumed and burned, it was literally the only thing i thought about, i knew exactly how much fat, carbs, sugar etc was in each food i ate as i had used my fitness pal so much and was only eating the same, simple, clean foods everyday.
Its not fun being this way, i was so up tight, strict and insecure.
It took a while for me to allow myself a treat meal, even if that was flavoured yogurt or an extra banana in the day.
But I at 7.8 (previously 9.2) stone i wasn't healthy at all, so tired, no motivation to do anything, which i would used to apart from plan my meals, make my meals and exercise everyday.

(Last year)

The 'clean' diet i followed was a really effective way to drop pounds and tone up, this is the only way i saw a difference, not some silly pills or missing meals or just living of apples, but you've got to allow yourself the right amount of food and actual be a real person and relax, cheat and enjoy food.

But since starting university in late september I was getting distracted by new friends, going out and uni work to be so controlling over the food I ate, also making new friends means spending time buying cocktails, going for amazing food so its a pity to stop yourself from doing these things.
I haven't totally forgotten about clean eating, I pretty much only eat clean foods everyday, but if we're going out for food, i will but i wont feel AS guilty about it as i try look for the healthiest, but also tasty/worth the money item on the menu.

I used to work out everyday, no days of unless I was really busy, but i would still fit in a 30 min youtube video work out. But now I work out 3/4 times a week and just do what I can manage.
It is normal to want to work out and it is really good for you anyway, I feel lazy if not, even if its 20 mins cardio of your choice and then 10/15 mins of toning up.

So this is my current health and fitness plan:
Exercise:
150/200 calories - Stepper
100 - Bike
50 - Rowing Machine
100 - Running up hill or Cross Trainer
(I aim to burn 300-400 calories each time i work out)
I have downloaded the AB's app on iphone and follow their routines or Blogilates

Food:
Breakfast - half a cup oats, almond milk, 1 medjool date chopped (for sugar) and 1 banana, blueberries, chai seeds
1/4 grapefruit
(small handful of nuts - cashews/almonds)
Lunch - Salmon, half an avocardo, spoon of cottage cheese, half sweet potato, salad, olives, sundried tomatoes (no oil), one poached egg with a side of broccoli and cauliflower
(handful of nuts after as im still peckish)

Tea - Stirfry with coconut oil consiting of: Chargrilled aubergines, courgettes, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes, 150g of chicken, spinach and kale, beetroot (good sources of iron to fight fatigue) chick peas, black beans, lentils (as a rice substitute) with side of broccoli and cauliflower

Late snack - strawberries, raspberries, black grape and greek yogurt and some pumpkinseeds.

This is kinda what I stick to eating most days as I don't get bored by using a variety of different foods which i enjoy most! It's also hard to eat different fresh foods everyday as I only cook for one being at uni and food is expensive and goes out of date really fast!

I'm still not 100% satisfied with myself right now but I know once I get back into a healthier rotuine (less alcohol which is difficult being a student) I should be back on track and healthier/happier!

If you have any other tips/food alternatives that are clean and keep you healthy feel free to drop a comment below.

  1. i was obsessed with exercise and food, now I eat mainly vegan as i've gone of meat with loads of pulses instead. i do up to twenty mins of exercise 4-5 days a week and building up my stamina each month. i've found spinach and chickpeas for breakfast is filling, plus limiting my fruit/sugar intake has greatly improved my skin.
Using spices helps fill you up too, cayenne and chilli peppers will help fill you up too

  4. Like Eleanor and yourself I too got into this rut last year on the build up to my wedding. I managed to also lose a stone, but the constant no chocolate, no carbs, etc became exhausting. 7 months later and I am not 100% happy with myself but instead of being so tough on myself and feeling guilty every time I reach for a doughnut I've decided to get help from an expert and find a food and fitness plan that suits me and allows me to look and feel the best I possible can. I start tomorrow and the motto is eat like a caveman, train like a spartan! I'm scared, but I think its so important not to allow 'healthy eating' to take over your life. If you are an athlete, I can appreciate that it is a way of life, but no normal person ends to be so tough on themselves. I personally don't consider it healthy. You on,y live once. Enjoy your food, but try to choose the right foods 90% of the time, get some exercise (3-4 times a week) and that's good enough :) x

  6. Sounds like you have found a great balance erika, at the end of the day there is no point looking fabulous & skinny if you cant even go out & enjoy feeling good.. the lack of ability to actually fucking eat anything coupled with no enegry can be so exhausing... you never really realise how much of our socialising is based around consuming (either alcohol or food) until we start to watch calories. You are a stunner & a tiny bit more weight that allows you to live your lyyyyyfe is not a bad thing. Only young & stun once girl.
